From Italy an original oil painting on poplar panel signed lower left C.Castelfranchi by the Italian painter Cirano Castelfranchi, shows a colorful scene of Milan, Piazza della Scala. This lovely Milanese view by Cirano Castelfranchi is in good condition, set within a modern frame.
On the verso, titled and dated: it shows the inscription: Piazza della Scala 29 ott 1958 Bandiera per Papa Roncalli Giovanni XXIII, which underlines the Italian flag on the theater to celebrate the new Pope Roncalli Giovanni XXIII, just elected.
Cirano Castelfranchi (Genova 1912- Firenze 1973) was an Italian artist active in Milan, from Brera, very well known for his Milan views.
Born in Genoa on July 2, 1912. he has always lived in Milan. He paints in oil and watercolor as a self-taught. He attended the drawing school in Brera. Since 1934 he has exhibited in regional and national exhibitions; and in 1942 he was awarded at the exhibition of Young Italian Painters in Palermo. He has works in private collections in Italy and abroad: New York, Paris, London. In 1934 he designed a series of plates with views of Milan.
