Early 20th century Art Deco silver Hanukkah lamp Menorah, Poland, circa 1920.
Essential design and timeless elegance feature this antique silver Jewish lamp handmade with a rectangular base and two sphere supports connected to a demi lune shaped squared section main body. With eight oil receptacles and original servant lamp inserted in the center. Marked with silver maker mark JS and Polish silver mark on the base.
Weight: 533 grams. Bibl. Tardy, Parigi 1985, pag. 330. The lamp is in good age related condition, comes from a villa on Lake Maggiore and weighs 533 grams.
It is in good condition except for a small dent on the edge of a candle and one on the edge of the base. It is an antique Italian oil lamp for the Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. It celebrates the victory of Judas Maccabeus over the Syrian king Antiochus Epiphanes and the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem in 165 BC. This winter festival lasts eight days and an extra flame is lit for each night of the festival.
