18th Century Large Italian Gilt Brass Shell from a Baroque Frame
3.000,00€
Large embossed, repoussé gilt metal shell from the decoration of a frame of a Baroque church furniture, of Italian origin, dating back to the early 18th century.
This antique Italian work is fully hand-made, has a spectacular original gilding with mercury amalgam, enhanced by the contrast of silvered, embossed metal plates, mounted on each valve and finely decorated with scrolling and floral motif.
Examining the back of the bowl we easily presume that this shell was fixed to a most complex surrounding structure with screws (or nails) as indicated by the central holes.
This large shell is an exclusive Italian artwork dating back to 1720 circa which can be used nowadays as centerpiece.
Some small deformations and cuts in the edges and signs of wear are consistent with use and age of this collectible object.
Period: 1700
