Set of Three late 18th century Italian Altar Cards Cantagloria
1.600,00€
Set of three late 18th century papier mache over wood altar cards or “cantagloria” from Marche, an Italian central region. These works would have been placed on the altar only during Mass and they contain the prayers that the priest would have recited during the Mass. While altar cards were always made in sets of three, we do not often find a complete set. Mercury mirror plates have replaced lyturgical inscriptions ant these antique frames are used as decorative antique mirrors. They have a mecca gilding, and are in excellent condition, coming from a private Italian collection.
Dimensions of larger cantagloria: 44 cm h x 65.
Dimensions of two smaller ones: 31 cm h x 35.
Period: 1700
