Reputed Portrait of Jane Bromley, as a Young Widow by British, English School, oil on canvas painting circa 1640/1650, in good condition, set in a modern frame.
Jane Bromley is painted wearing a widow’s peak, a headdress worn during mourning.
She was the heiress of Hallon Manor, subsequently Davenport, and great-grandmother of Henry Davenport III (1677–1731), who married Barbara Ivory (d.1748).
A similar portrait is exhibited at Fox Talbot Museum and Village in England, National Trust collection, Lacock Abbey, obtained on loan from the Davenport family since 1993.
