In this antique painting from Bosnia Herzegovina Doko MAZALIC captures a resting scene in the middle of a field where a man, a farmer or wayfarer, is seated in a resting position in the foreground, with two large sheaves of hay and a rural landscape in the background. The dominant colors are the golden hues of the hay and field, the blue of the sky with ample clouds and the warm tones of the clothing of the seated male figure, with his hands encircling his knees, dressed in simple clothes, a headdress, a jacket over his shoulders and a bag of multicolored cloth.

The composition of the painting is simple and conveys a sense of peace and stillness. This moment of rest is rendered by the painter with a rapid and vibrant brushstroke that gives the work a sense of vitality and strength even in depicting the stillness of a quiet moment.
The oil-painting is hand-made on a masonite panel measuring 33 x 35 cm, is in good condition within a wooden guillochè frame and is signed and dated at the lower right of the viewer.
