Marshal Ney Bronze Sculpture Giuseppe Grandi 1930 circa, a stunning dark patina cast bronze Italian sculpture depicting Napoleonic Marshal Ney figure. Of Italian origin, this is a multiple of good execution and quality, dating back to the 1930s, shows the inscription NEY on the front of the base and the inscription of the artist GRANDI on the back.
The 1874 original sculpture, which inspired several foundries, is conserved at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Milan; the original work by the sculptor Giuseppe Grandi (1843-1894), one of the leading exponents of the Lombard Scapigliatura movement.
Marshal Ney is standing, dressed in uniform and holding his sabre at his left hip. He wears a long coat with military epaulettes. On his head he wears a felucca. Moreover, the general seems to be resting thoughtfully. His pose, in fact, does not express his indomitable character. Rather, he seems reflective and caught in an intimate moment.
The sculpture rests on a square veined marble base measuring 10 cm of height by 14 by 14 cm, the sculpture alone is 32 cm high and is in perfect condition.
It comes form a private collection of Milan.
