Italian Louis XVI Marquetry Chest of Drawers With Marble Top, Piedmont 1750 circa
Extraordinary Italian Louis XVI commode dating back to mid18th century.
Walnut veneered and inlaid, with one short drawer above two long drawers and an original white marble top, with an Ammonite fossile (Perisphinctes). Very elegant, with perfect proportions, this Italian commode of Piedmontese origin, stands on tapered pyramidal legs. Marquetry is obtained with many precious woods, bois de rose, tulipier, bois de violette, walnut and threaded in boxwood and rosewood.
The veneer is placed obliquely, in a herringbone pattern, to form both on the sides and on the front, elegant opposite contrasts within inlaid frames.See picture details.
The inside of the drawers is made of spruce, whereas the molded jutting frames are made of solid walnut.
The geometric arrangement of the veneer dates this chest of drawers to mid-eighteenth century.
Excellent condition, with a superb gommalacca shellac polishing.
