Late 18th Century Louis XVI Chest of Drawers from Milan
8.000,00€
Extraordinary Italian Louis XVI commode dating back to late 18th century. Walnut veneered and inlaid with three drawers on the front, a small one and two lower bigger drawers. Very elegant, with perfect proportions, this Italian commode of Milanese origin stands on tapered pyramidal legs. Marquetry is obtained with many precious woods, walnut and threaded in boxwood and cherry wood. The veneer is placed obliquely in a herringbone pattern, to form both on the sides and on the front, elegant opposite contrasts within inlaid frames. See picture details. The inside of the drawers is made of spruce, partially lined with paper, whereas the molded jutting frames are made of solid walnut. The geometric arrangement of the veneer dates this chest of drawers to late 18th century. Quite good overall condition, wear consistent with age and use, it comes from a private Milanese residence. The top shows some scratches and dark patina and overall minor veneer losses and detachments, traces of its 250-year history.
A professional restoring and French polishing with gommalacca shellac will be recommended, will cost approximately 2500 euros and it will take around three weeks.
