1.200,00€
Large Majolica Plate by Venetian Antonibon Manufactory with Fruit Decoration, circa 1750, in good condition, oval in shape with mixtilinear edges, featuring a fruit decoration in the centre resting on a rocaille shell. The edges of the flower clusters show charming imaginary butterflies. The label of the Subert gallery of Milan is on the bottom.
The Antonibon factory, a famous name in the field of ceramics, was founded in 1728 by Giovanni Battista Antonibon and continued by his son Pasquale, thanks to whom it gained fame and fortune. Originally a majolica factory, it soon began experimenting with porcelain, which was produced regularly from 1762 onwards.
The “baroque fruit” decoration is a popular type of ceramic, whose table decorations and coats of arms feature fruit alongside small animals such as lizards and snails. The very white glaze, which accompanies and highlights the clean and cheerful shapes, together with the stylistic refinement of the decorations, are the distinctive features of the Antonibon factory.
