An original etching by Francesco Morelli, dated 1796 depicting the Cecilia Metella Sepulcher with some figures in the front, one of the Grand Tour monuments in Rome
François Morel was born around 1768 in the France-Comté and died after 1830. He was an artisti of the Volpato school. He worked in Italy and above all in Rome where he engraved religious subjects and landscapes. Bibl. E. Benezit, Vol. 9, p. 833, Grund 1999.
It is set in Pompeian red passe-partout, within an ebonized wooden frame.
Good age related condition, a small laceration on the lower part, has been reduced in the margins, wear consistent with age and use.
Frame measures 44 cm x 50 cm.
