Beautiful rose marquetry in this Italian Directoire three drawers commode dating back to the early 19th century, in good age related condition.
Top with an inlaid rose window in the middle, walnut veneered and inlaid with three drawers on the front.
Both brass circular handles and escutcheons are placed later, since removing these ones, under the ornament plates that surround keyholes, you can see an elaborate rose window inlaid in the middle of each drawer.
Very elegant, with perfect small proportions, this Italian commode of Italian origin comes from a private collection and stands on tapered pyramidal legs. Marquetry is obtained with many precious woods, walnut and threaded in boxwood and cherrywood.
The veneer is placed obliquely in a herringbone pattern, to form both on the sides and on the front, elegant opposite contrasts within inlaid frames.
The geometric arrangement of the veneer dates this chest of drawers to early 19th century.
This antique chest of drawers came from a private Milanese residence and showed traces of its history of 220 years. The top showed some scratches and overall minor veneer losses or and detachments. They have been repaired, the commode has been restored, with a warm wax finish.
