Antique black marble paperweight, a 19th Century  Grand Tour Italian Micro Mosaic Architectural Colosseum tableau, done in very small glass tiles or tessarae, on shaped marble base.

This micromosaic is mounted in a  black Belgium marble floating frame, presse-papier. Micromosaic pieces were traditionally souvenir items from the “Grand Tours” that were taken in the 19th. century. Architectural subjects were especially popular.

Wear consistent with age and use, minor marble chips and a restoration. On the contrary, the micro mosaic is in perfect condition.
