Italian Faience Pilgrim Bottles a Pair of 19th Century Italian Moon Flasks
A lovely pair of 19th century pilgrim flasks of Italian origin,  from Central Italy and dating to approximately 1820,  realized in a Renaissance Revival style.  Both vases are done in a very thick terracotta, the flattened ovoid sides painted with figural reserves, decorated on frontal side with biblical scenes,  depicting the expulsion from Eden and Annunciation with vivid ocher and blue colors.
The vases are shaped in what’s known as a Pilgrim Flask or bottle, flat on one side and four loops for the shoulder cord; profiles are painted  with a blue foliage decoration against  a white ground.
They are in good age related condition with  signs of wear, old restoration, see the break at the neck.See closed up picture detail. They come from a private  Milanese collection.
