18th Century Italian Pair of Hand Carved Giltwood Over Door Friezes
Pair of hand-carved and gilt wood over door elements circa 1750, two Italian Baroque wall decorations suitable for surmounting a doorframe. Probably originating from antique mirrors, these antique eighteenth-century copyings are made of fine basswood, known for its workability and beauty. Silver mecca gilding gives them a bright and rich appearance typical of the Baroque style.
The two horizontal scrolls that make up the structure are exquisitely carved with acanthus leaves and leaf elements; they are also supported by a central frieze, making each piece unique. This pair of gilded friezes features restorations, additions and consolidations, consistent with the eighteenth-century age and they are in good age related conditions, ready to be placed in any setting.
Of Italian origin, this pair of over door friezes represent not only a piece of furniture, but also a piece of history and craftsmanship that enriches any space with its sophistication and distinctive character. Perfect for those who wish to bring a touch of classic Italian elegance into the home.
