18th Century Italian Gilt Wood Friezes with St Michael Carved Figure

Pair of Italian Gilded Friezes hand-made around 1750s richly carved in basswood with a central oval tableau depicting St. Michael wielding a sword in his right hand and holding scales in his left hand.
The frieze is topped by an effigy of an angel’s face in the upper part and two angel profiles in the side ends connected by scrolls. The lower part was to be connected to a supporting wood for the presentation of the devotional plaque.The Confraternity of St. Michael was an association of faithful Catholics dedicated to promoting the devotion and veneration of the Archangel St. Michael. This confraternity organized prayer meetings, processions, cultural and charity events to celebrate the figure of St. Michael and spread his protection and intercession among the faithful. The confraternity could be present in different parishes and churches that have St. Michael the Archangel as their patron.
The two confraternities are in good condition and come from north-central Italy.
