17th Century Italian Walnut Chest, Arms and Caryatids Carving Renaissance Trunk
From Italy, this fabulous, beautifully hand-carved walnut wood trunk, a typical solid walnut chest of Renaissance style from the 1600s. The top and sides have no decoration, but the elaborate front panel is richly decorated, framed by three carved frames, with coat of arms and caryatids carving.
Of Lombard origin – northern Italy – it is in good age related condition. On request, it was restored by changing the top opening to a front opening; new key, new lock, Varese paper-lined buttom interior, warm bee-wax finish enhancing the walnut flame.
On the front, in the center, we find the family coat of arms flanked by scrolls and flowers. On the sides two caryatids, in the lower part, an important ribbed frame rests on two lion feet. The sides shows only frame carvings. The top shows the joint of two walnut planks.
