French Majolica Violin Rouen 1800s.\u00a0 This polychrome majolica violin with stanniferous glaze is fully decorated in shades of ochre and blue with floral motifs, flower vases, cornucopias and grids, arabesque motif in shades of green.\u00a0 The same decoration also adorns the edges of the instrument, containing shaped tableaus with polychrome flowers. The back of this musical pottery bears other decorations with flowers and racemes as well as the inscription of the French manufactory, bottom left, 777 Rouen. This 19th century instrument\u00a0shows a side pocket and two holes for hanging on the wall by a rope, missing.\u00a0 It is not intended to produce sound, it represents a rare and precious genre of decorative arts.
