Miniature of a Gentlewoman
Miniature of a gentlewoman portrayed in three quarters, sitting in an armchair in front of a gilded mirror that reflects the soft drapery of a curtain. The lady wears a soft black dress with an important neckline decorated with a pearl brooch that recalls the triple strand of pearls on the neck and the bracelet on her wrist, always made of pearls. The miniature is painted in tempera on an ivory plate and is framed by a small bronze border and an ebonized wood frame. It bears Bertugo’s signature in the lower left corner and is in good condition regardless of a slight chip on the glass in the lower right corner. England circa 1850.
