A fine George III Period Mahogany Cased Bracket Clock signed on the enameled dial Metcalfe Newgate Street London, the hours are shown in Roman numerals with minute divisions, good age related condition, we would recommend a movement restoration. The engraved back plate also signed Metcalfe Newgate Street London, the pieced gilt brass side and front panels all in the Rococo manner, the domed top with a carrying handle and all raised on shaped brass bracket feet. This English clock of beautiful proportions, has a moulded arch top and a brass carrying handle. George Marmaduke Metcalfe (1757-1825), was apprenticed to Robert Underwood and was Free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1781. Metcalfe is recorded as working in London at 122, Newgate Street from 1794 to 1825.
