Lady With Hat Profile Portrait By Cesare Tallone 1880 circa
An oil on canvas painting by the Italian painter Cesare Tallone, Savona, 1853– Milano 1919, depicting a profile portrait of a lady with hat, signed lower right with C.T. the artist monogram.
This work is cataloged in the painter’s archive by Gigliola Tallone, a painter’s descendant. Gigliola Tallone, Cesare Tallone, edited by Electa 2005.
Set within a modern gilt wood frame, the work is in good age related condition, with an old relining.
The beautiful profile face receives and is surrounded by the golden light of the background, while everything else, both black hat and dress, remain as backlight, with the blacks just vibrated.
The girl is portrayed with no frills, so abused in post-impressionist painting of that period, just the light of the face, only the depth of the intense look, only the personality of the young woman posing.
