Indian Carved Pida Chair
Exceptional late 19th century Indian folding “ Pida” chair with shaped back, hand-carved teak decorated with horses lions, flowers and geometrical elements and rope seating. The frame still preserves its original patination and despite its low appearance its quite comfortable.
A mixture of Rajasthani and Mughal influences have combined to form these ornate tribal carvings. Rajasthanis traditionally used horses as a vehicle for battle and so the horse is used to reflect as a symbol of nobility and strength throughout this region of India.
