A 19th century micromosaic of St. Peter’s Square in Rome showing the Vatican, the Colonades, Piazza del Pietro, the Egyptian obelisk, the fountains by Carlo Moderna, and the dome of St. Peter’s done in very small glass tiles or tessarae. This micromosaic is mounted in black slate stone floating frame, presse-papier. Micromosaic pieces were traditionally souvenir items from the “Grand Tours” that were taken in the 19th. century. Architectural subjects were especially popular.
Wear consistent with age and use, minor stone chips.
