Antique Anatomical Model of an Eye
Antique anatomical model representing an eye, painted plaster and glass, of Flemish origin, as per the label on the basement, Laméris Utrecht Instrumenten. Dating back to the first half of 20th century, it is in overall good condition, with minor chips, consistent with age and use. Plaster is a very brittle material and so very few of these models have survived in good condition.
It shows the structures of the eye and is hand-painted, with the eye ball being represented in glass, being a
teaching plaster models for students and doctors of medicine, it can be disassemble.
Art of modelling wax for anatomic preparation increased in Bologna during the first half of 1700, in a historical stage when attention was turned to observation and experimental research, and it was alive, in most qualified students, a desire to prefer teaching of scientific subject based on practical demonstration.
