17th Century Italian Walnut Almsgiver Box with TP Initials
17th century rectangular shaped alms box hand-realized in solid walnut decorated with fire marked initials T.P. Of Italian origin, Northern Italy.
Good age related condition, wear consistent with use.
It is an almsgiver box for ecclesiastical use, considering the double openings on the top, the third entrance for coins has been closed.
The almsgiver has no lock and was probably closed with a latch, missing of which the tax signs are preserved in the central part of the frame on the long side. The box should be hung as evidenced by the rear holes and the lack of wear on the bottom side.
