Set of Three Antique Large Oriental Cloisonne Vases
Triptych of large oriental cloisonné vases from early 20th century consisting of two tall vases and a central potiche with lid, all oval, polylobate in shape, glazed with a warm cream background color and decorated in the round with polychrome enamels, ramages of flowers and leaves with birds and butterflies.
This set of three antique eastern cloisonne vases dates from the early 20th century, features two shaped and gilded wooden bases. The central potiche lacks the knob on the lid and measures 45 cm. high, 34 cm. wide and 26 cm. deep. Instead, the measurements shown are for the two tallest pots. They are in good condition, with minimal signs of wear, come from a private collection in Milan downtown and date from the early 1900s from Eastern Asia.
The cloisonné technique is one of the oldest techniques used to enamel objects. It consists of applying to a foil alveoli, cloisons, made of bars of the same metal, within which enamel is poured. The cloisons are arranged to form a chosen pattern that will be particularly highlighted by the brightness of the glaze, cooling without smearing into the various cells of the before mentioned lattice pattern.
