German Terrestrial Table Globe with Naval Routes Columbus Erdglobus 1950s

German Political Globe With Naval Routes Columbus Erdglobus a 33 cm diameter
terrestrial table globe political globe made by the Columbus company, designed by Dr. R. Neuse and revised by cartographer C. Luther. It is in German and dates from the 1950s. It shows the political division of the world, with the boundaries of the various countries and the names of nations. It is an important cartographic tool that provides information on global political geography and is used for educational and research purposes.
The map is made-up of twelve segments, applied to a cardboard sphere; the globe rotates on a central axis and is supported by a turned wooden pedestal. On the truncated wooden base we find an inset compass. Despite some signs of wear and tear as visible in the gallery photos, this antique globe is an excellent piece of furniture, also interesting from a historical geographic, collectible and antiquarian point of view.

The cartography is detailed, and the surface is all legible; major shipping routes, railway lines (in red), and the dotted border between East and West Germany are present. Colonies and protectorates are shown in the color of the parent state.

The inscription in the oval field reads COLUMBUS ERDGLOBUS Bearbeitet Von Oberrealschuldirektor Dr. R. Neuse Neurevidiert Von Kartograph C. Luther – Columbus-Verlag.Paul Oesergaard K G . Berlin und Stuttgart.
